Crock Pot Beef Burgundy Stew Recipe

This French-inspired stew is perfect for special occasions.

Makes 8 servings

Ingredients: 2 pounds (960 g) lean beef stew meat, 1 cup (250 ml) Burgundy wine, 1 cup (250 ml) low-sodium fat-free beef broth 1 tablespoon (15 ml) tomato paste, 1 cup (250 ml) chopped yellow onion, 1 teaspoon (7 ml) dried thyme leaves, 1 teaspoon (7 ml) dried rosemary leaves, 1 teaspoon (7 ml) dried tarragon leaves, 1½ cups (375 ml) frozen pearl onions, thawed and drained, 1½ cups (375 ml) sliced fresh mushrooms, 2 tablespoons (30 ml) cornstarch, 1/4 cup (60 ml) cold water, 1/2 cup (125 ml) chopped fresh parsley, salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Instructions: In 6-quart (6 L) crock pot, combine beef stew meat, Burgundy wine, beef broth, tomato paste, chopped yellow onion, and herbs. Cover the cooker and cook on low-heat setting for 6-8 hours, adding thawed pearl onions and mushrooms during the last 2 hours. Increase heat to high and cook for furhter10 minutes, then stir in combined cornstarch and water, stirring 2-3 times.

Crock Pot Basic Beef Stew Recipe


  • 2 1 oz (30 ml) packages dry onion soup mix
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 2 pounds (960 g) lean beef stew meat, cut into cubes
  • 5 medium potatoes, peeled and diced
  • 2-3 cups baby carrots
  • 1 samll yellow onion, peeled and chopped
  • 2 10 oz (300 ml) cans cream of celery soup
  • 1 cup (250 ml) ketchup
  • 1 stalk celery, chopped


Step 1

In a large plastic bag, combine dry onion soup mix and paprika. Shake well. Add cubed beef and shake again to coat meat with spices.

Step 2

Spread seasoned meat evenly into greased 7-quart (7 L) crock pot. Top with vegetables.

Step 3

In a small mixing bowl, combine cream of celery soup and ketchup. Stir well. Pour ketchup mixture over meat and vegetables.

Step 4

Cover crock pot and cook on low-heat setting for 7-8 hours, or until beef is cooked through and vegetables are tender.

Step 5

Turn off the crock pot and open the lid. Stir well beef stew before serving. Ladle into soup bowls and serve immediately.
