Instant pot Korean ground beef recipe. Korean ground beef is the most delicious way to make a classic Korean dish for your family. It’s quick, easy, and guaranteed to please your whole family.

Instant Pot Korean Ground Beef Recipe

Are you a fan of Asian flavors? If so, you’ll love these Korean ground beef and rice bowls made in the Instant Pot for easy weeknight meal prep.

Ground beef is cooked in a pressure cooker with the addition of ginger, garlic, pear, sesame oil, and soy sauce to create a flavor like Bulgogi. Once it’s finished cooking on Saute mode with some sugar and sesame oil, it’s wonderfully browned.

You can cook it ahead to be frozen later. The roasting time is also reduced because you’ll be able to consume the meat faster than it takes to cook. With an Instant Pot, you can defrost and reheat beef, poultry, or fish in a frying pan. Then brown it again just before serving.

You can make rice in the Instant Pot and save it for future meals. Use 2-minute rice packets for a speedy dinner hack. It is important to keep in mind that brown rice, noodles, quinoa, or cauliflower rice can also be served with Korean ground beef. This is because the ingredients for bibimbap vary according to dietary requirements in Korea.

The Korean beef and rice bowls are so delicious. They are unlike any other dish you’ve had before. The pickled carrots and cucumbers only add to the flavor of this meal, as they give it a burst of crunch that makes for a refreshing change of pace. These can be made ahead of time or just before serving and they allow you to finish the dish with a refreshing taste that is customized to your preferences.

This Instant Pot Asian-inspired dinner recipe makes for a complete and delicious meal the whole family will love. It is easy, fun, and quick enough to prep in under 20 minutes so you can spend more time with them!

About Korean Ground Beef Ingredients:

If you have ingredients like soy sauce, sesame oil, and rice vinegar on hand, you’re all set! This recipe is a lot easier than taking the time to make Korean ground beef bowls from scratch. You can usually find a variety of Asian grocery stores in most major markets, and they make for good ways to pick up some pre-cooked ingredients.

Ground beef. If you want to keep it light, make sure that it’s 93-90% lean. If the flavor of your dish is more important, use ground chicken or pork in this dish.

Soy sauce is a classic in Chinese cuisine. Many recipes call for low-sodium soy sauce, but we use less and add water so you don’t have to buy an extra ingredient.

Aromatics. Garlic is a key flavor for many Asian dishes. Its distinctive flavor provides an important boost to the dish, enhancing other flavors and making it more appealing. Studies have shown that ginger has potent anti-inflammatory properties which makes it an essential staple in a health-conscious kitchen.

Pear: the sweet and tasteable fruit that gives Korean bulgogi beef deliciousness without sacrificing authenticity or health. We used a regular pear instead of the traditional Nashi pear, which was easy to find and gave us an amazing taste.

Brown sugar: A sweetener is used to balance out the saltiness of this dish. You can use various sweeteners, but honey also works great. Some keto and low-carb recipes use a sugar-free sugar substitute.

Chili is not spicy, but it can be spiced up with a pinch of heat. This style of cuisine has become popular in countries around the world, including Asia. Using chili paste called Gochujang is more traditional and it’s not too spicy. If you can’t find any, red chili pepper flakes work just as well. Sometimes I like a bit more spice so I might add a little extra heat. Other times, I just want to cool things down with some fresh herbs.

Sesame oil is a common ingredient in Korean dishes. It adds a mildly toasted nutty flavor that you shouldn’t skip. Sesame oil is commonly found at many grocery stores, but it typically can be found in the Asian or international aisle.

Ingredients

  • 1tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound (480 g) ground beef
  • 5 cloves garlic, peeled and minced
  • 1 tablespoon minced ginger
  • 1/2 ripe pear, cored and grated
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) plus 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili flakes
  • 1/2 cup (125 ml) water
  • To Finish:
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons sesame oil
  • 2 green onions, chopped
  • 4 cups cooked rice
  • chopped fresh cilantro

Method

Step 1

Heat the olive oil in an electric instant pot turned to saute mode. Add ground beef and cook, stirring and breaking with a wooden spatula, for 6-7 minutes, or until the most of liquid has evaporated and the meat is lightly browned.

Step 2

Stir in minced garlic and ginger. Turn the saute mode off.

Step 3

Mix in the soy sauce, grated pear, and chili flakes, then pour in 1/2 cup (125 ml) of water. Stir, scraping off the bottom of the pot with the spatula.

Step 4

Close the pot and lock the lid. Set the machine to cook at high pressure. Set the timer to cook for 5 minutes.

Step 5

Using the Quick Release method, bring pressure to normal. Carefully unlock and open the lid. Stir in brown sugar and sesame oil. Switch to saute mode and cook, stirring occasionally, for 4-5 minutes, or until thickened and caramelized.

Step 6

Remove cooked beef from the cooker and transfer it to a serving plate. Serve over the cooked rice, sprinkled with sesame seeds and green onions.
