Pressure cooker coffee-braised chuck roast is a delicious and flavorful dish that is perfect for a Sunday dinner or any special occasion. This easy chuck roast recipe will impress your family and friends with its rich and robust flavors.
This roast recipe is perfect for a Sunday dinner. It’s the best thing you’ll taste this week!

Can I use a crockpot to cook coffee braised chuck roast instead?

The answer is no. It won’t work because a crockpot cooks at a lower temperature than a stovetop, and the meat will end up tough and dry.

How to Cook Chuck Roast in a Pressure Cooker

To cook chuck roast in a pressure cooker, start by heating 1 ½ tablespoons of peanut oil in the pressure cooker over medium-high heat. Add 1 large onion, peeled, halved, and thinly sliced, along with 1/2 teaspoon of cumin seeds. Sauté the onion and cumin seeds until the onion is soft and translucent.

Next, add 2 pounds of boneless beef chuck roast to the pressure cooker. Brown the chuck roast on all sides, about 2-3 minutes per side. This will help seal in the juices and add extra flavor to the roast.

Once the chuck roast is browned, add 1 cup of very strong black coffee to the pressure cooker. The coffee will add a deep and rich flavor to the roast.

Lock the lid of the pressure cooker in place and cook the chuck roast on high pressure for 60 minutes. Allow the pressure to release naturally for 10 minutes, then manually release any remaining pressure.

Remove the meat from the pressure cooker and let it rest for a few minutes before slicing. The meat will be tender and juicy, and the flavors will have melded together beautifully.

Braised Chuck Roast Serving Suggestions

Once you have cooked the pressure cooker coffee-braised chuck roast to perfection, it’s time to think about how to serve this delicious dish. Here are a few serving suggestions that will complement the rich flavors of the chuck roast:

1. Mashed Potatoes and Gravy: Serve the tender and juicy chuck roast slices on a bed of creamy mashed potatoes. Drizzle some of the flavorful cooking juices from the pressure cooker over the meat and potatoes for an extra burst of flavor.

2. Roasted Vegetables: Roasted vegetables are the perfect side dish to accompany the braised chuck roast. Choose a variety of vegetables such as carrots, Brussels sprouts, and parsnips. Toss them in olive oil, salt, and pepper, then roast them in the oven until they are tender and slightly caramelized.

3. Crusty Bread: Serve the chuck roast as a sandwich filling by slicing the meat and placing it between two slices of crusty bread. Add some horseradish sauce or mustard for a tangy kick.

4. Creamy Polenta: For a comforting and hearty meal, serve the chuck roast over a bed of creamy polenta. The creamy texture of the polenta pairs well with the tender meat and rich flavors of the braising liquid.

5. Salad: Balance out the richness of the chuck roast with a fresh and crisp salad. Choose a mix of greens, such as arugula or baby spinach, and add some sliced cherry tomatoes, cucumber, and a light vinaigrette dressing.

These serving suggestions will elevate the flavors of the pressure cooker coffee-braised chuck roast and provide a well-rounded and satisfying meal. Experiment with different combinations to find your favorite way to enjoy this delicious dish.

How to Store Leftovers

When you have finished enjoying your pressure cooker coffee-braised chuck roast, you may find yourself with some delicious leftovers. To ensure that you can savor the flavors of this dish for another meal, it’s important to store the leftovers properly. Here are some tips on how to store your pressure cooker coffee-braised chuck roast leftovers:

1. Allow the meat to cool: Before storing the leftovers, allow the chuck roast to cool completely. This will help prevent the growth of bacteria and ensure that the meat stays fresh.

2. Divide into portions: If you have a large amount of leftovers, consider dividing them into individual portions. This will make it easier to reheat only what you need and prevent waste.

3. Use airtight containers: Transfer the leftovers into airtight containers or resealable bags. Make sure to remove as much air as possible to maintain the quality of the meat.

4. Label and date: Don’t forget to label the containers with the contents and the date. This will help you keep track of how long the leftovers have been stored and ensure that you use them before they spoil.

5. Refrigerate or freeze: If you plan to consume the leftovers within a few days, store them in the refrigerator. For longer storage, place them in the freezer. Frozen leftovers can be kept for up to three months.

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ tablespoons peanut oil
  • 1 large onion, peeled, halved, and thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cumin seeds
  • 2 pounds (960 g) boneless beef chuck roast
  • 1 cup (250 ml) very strong black coffee
  • 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon finely grated orange zest
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

Method

Step 1

Heat the peanut oil in a pressure cooker turned to the sauté mode. Add sliced onion and cumin seeds. Cook, stirring until onion is lightly browned (for about 7 minutes).

Step 2

Push browned onion and cumin seeds to the sides of the pressure cooker. Add beef chuck roast and brown on all sides, turning once (for about 8 minutes).

Step 3

Add the remaining ingredients. Season with salt and black pepper.

Step 4

Close the pot and lock the lid. Set the machine to cook at high pressure. Set the timer to cook for 90 minutes.

Step 5

Using the Quick Release method, bring pressure to normal. Carefully unlock and open the lid. Using tongs, remove cooked meat from the pressure cooker and transfer it to a cutting board.

Step 6

Using a slotted spoon, transfer cooked onions to a small serving bowl. Defeat the sauce, skimming it with a small spoon.

Step 7

Switch the cooker to the sauté mode. Bring sauce to a simmer. Boil, stirring occasionally until sauce is reduced to half (for about 7 minutes)

Step 8

Slice beef chuck roast. Pour sauce over meat and serve immediately.
