The Manhattan cocktail. Delicious vermouth-based mixed drink. Some people prefer less vermouth and dash of bitters. Others use a different kind of whiskey rather than rye, still others like a dash of Benedictine liqueur tossed in for effect. This one is a classic Manhattan cocktail.
There are many variations to the Manhattan.
Manhattan Cooler
1. 4 oz (120 ml) claret
2. 2½ oz (75 ml) freshly squeezed lemon juice
3.a few drops gold rum
In old fashion glass, combine all ingredients.
Stir well.
Add ice and stir again.
Top with fruit slices.
Manhattan Maneater
1. 1½ oz(45 ml) whiskey
2. 2 tablespoons Southern Comfort
3. 1-2 dashes orange bitters
In a shaker filled with ice, combine all ingredients.
Shake well and strain into old fashion glass.
Add more ice.
Garnish with maraschino cherry.
Manhattan Vieux Carre
1. 2 oz(60 ml) Bourbon
2.1 oz(30 ml) sweet vermouth
3. a few drops of sugar syrup
Combine without ice.
Stir well to blend.
Refrigerate in a small sealed jar for 1 day.
Serve straight up with maraschino cherry.

- 2½ oz (75 ml) rye whiskey
- maraschino cherry
- 1 oz (30 ml) sweet vermouth
Method
Step 1
In old fashion glass filled with cubed ice, combine whiskey and vermouth. Stir well.
Step 2
Garnish with maraschino cherry.
