Slow Cooked Honey Chicken Wings Recipe

Easy slow cooker chicken wings tossed in a homemade sweet and spicy honey-chipotle sauce. Mouthwatering appetizer!

Makes 4 servings

Ingredients: 2 pounds (960 g) chicken wings (wings and drummettes separated), for the Sauce: 2/3 cup (160 ml) honey, 1 cup (250 ml) sugar, 4 teaspoons (20 ml) chipotle adobo sauce, 1 tablespoon (15 ml) hot sauce, 1 teaspoon (5 ml) salt, 1 teaspoon (5 ml) garlic powder, 1/2 cup (125 ml) ketchup, 2 tablespoons (30 ml) white vinegar, 2/3 cup (160 ml) cold water, 4 tablespoons (60 ml)cornstarch

Instructions: In a large mixing bowl, combine all sauce ingredients, except water and cornstarch. Whisk well. Grease inside a 6-quart (6 L) slow cooker with nonstick cooking spray. Pour half of the spicy sauce into the greased pot, then add chicken wings and toss well to coat with the sauce.

Close the slow cooker and cook on a low-heat setting for 6-7 hours or until wings are cooked through.

In a small mixing bowl, combine cornstarch and water. Whisk until cornstarch is dissolved completely. Open the lid of the pot and stir in the remaining sauce, then stir in the cornstarch mixture.

Cover the cooker and cook for a further 15-20 minutes or until the sauce is thickened.

Turn off the slow cooker and open the lid. Stir chicken and sauce well before serving. Using tongs, transfer baked honey chicken wings to a serving platter. Pour the sauce over and serve immediately.

Oven-Baked Honey Chicken Wings Recipe

Ingredients

  • 2 ½ pounds (1.2 kg) chicken wings, wings and drummettes separated)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup (125 ml) ketchup
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) honey
  • 1½ tablespoons chipotles in adobo sauce
  • 2 teaspoons vinegar
  • 1½ teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Method

Step 1

Add 1 tablespoon of salt to a large pot of water. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat.

Step 2

Add chicken wings to the boiling water and boil for about 9 minutes.

Step 3

Preheat the oven to 400 F (200 C).

Step 4

Remove boiled chicken wings from the pan. Pat them dry with papaer towels. Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes, then flip each piece and bake for a furthe 15 minutes.

Step 5

In a food processor, combine the remaining ingredients. Process until smooth. Pour the sauce over baked chicken wings and toss well to coat.

Step 6

Serve hot.
