Slow Cooker Chicken Shawarma Recipe
Ingredients
- 2 pounds (960 g) boneless and skinless chicken breasts
- 1/2 cup (125 ml) water
- 1/4 cup (60 ml) olive oil
- For the Dry Mix:
- 1Β½ teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon ground sumac
- 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon sweet paprika
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon sea salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon ground turmeric
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- a pinch of ground cloves
Method
Step 1
Place chicken breasts in a 6-quart (6 L) slow cooker. Pour the water over the chicken.
Step 2
Close the pot and cook on a high-heat setting for 2 hours or until the chicken is cooked through.
Step 3
Turn off the cooker and open the lid. Using tongs, remove the chicken from the slow cooker and transfer it to a cutting board. Shred against the grain.
Step 4
In a large mixing bowl, combine all dry ingredients. Mix well and set aside.
Step 5
In a large heavy pan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add shredded chicken to the hot oil and sprinkle with spice mixture.
Step 6
Fry without stirring until crisp. Pour 1mote tablespoon oil over the chicken and flip it, stirring and making sure the chicken is well coated with the spice mixture.
Step 7
Once the chicken is crisp, remove it from the pan and transfer it to a serving plate. Serve with Greek tzatziki sauce.
