Slow cooker easy chunky applesauce recipe. Very easy and delicious applesauce cooked in a slow cooker. Use it with homemade vanilla ice cream. You can also cook applesauce in an oven:

Oven Baked Easy Chunky Applesauce Recipe:

Makes 4 cups (1L)

Ingredients: 4 pounds (2 kg) apples, peeled, cored and cut into 1-inch (2.5 cm) chunks, 3 tablespoons (45 ml) unsalted butter, cut into cubes, 1/4 cup (60 ml) plus 2 tablespoons (30 ml) light brown sugar, dash grated cinnamon, for serving

Instructions: Preheat the oven to 400º F (200º C).  Place chunked apples in a 9×13-inch (22.5×32.5 cm) baking dish. Scatter with brown sugar and cubed butter evenly over top of apples. Cover tightly with aluminum foil. Bake in preheated oven for 40-45 minutes, tossing once until the apples are very tender.

Turn off the oven and remove baked apples. Transfer to a large mixing bowl. Using a potato masher, mash apples. Taste, if the applesauce is too tart, add little more brown sugar. Sprinkle with grated cinnamon.

Slow Cooker Easy Chunky Applesauce Recipe

Ingredients

  • 3 pounds (1.44 kg) tart cooking apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1 cup (250 ml) snipped dried apples
  • 1/2 cup (125 ml) brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup (125 ml) water
  • 1/4 cup frozen apple juice concentrate, thawed
  • 1 teaspoon finely shredded lemon peel
  • 3 tablespoons (45 ml) freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 6 cinnamon sticks, brocken into 1-inch (2.5 cm) pieces

Method

Step 1

In a 3½-quart (3½ L) slow cooker, combine sliced apples, dried apples, sugar, water, apple juice, and cinnamon sticks. Mix well.

Step 2

Cover slow cooker and cook on low-heat setting for 6-8 hours.

Step 3

Turn off the slow cooker and open the lid. Remove and discard the cinnamon stick.

Step 4

Remove cooked apples from the slow cooker and transfer to a large bowl. Using a potato masher, coarsely mash the apples. Cool slightly.
