Slow cooker ham bean casserole recipe. Meaty ham bone and leftover ham with beans, and onions cooked in a slow cooker. This recipe is one of my favorite casseroles. Simple, easy, and delicious! Adapted from http://www.eatcakefordinner.net/2016/01/slow-cooker-ham-and-beans.html

To prepare the Slow Cooker Ham Bean Casserole Recipe you need to use the following ingredients (the short version follows): 1 pound (480 g) dried Great Northern Beans, 1Β½ pounds (720 g) meaty ham bone, and leftover ham, 1 yellow onion, salt, and freshly ground black pepper, to taste, water, 3-4 tablespoons (45-60 ml) light brown sugar

Instructions: Peel the beans, then rinse under cold running water. Place rinsed beans in a large bowl and cover with water. Set aside and allow to soak overnight.

Drain the beans and add to a 6-quart (6 L) slow cooker. Peel and chop the yellow onion (supposed to have 3/4 cup (180 ml)). Add ham bone and leftover, chopped onion, then pour enough water to cover the beans and ham. Lightly sprinkle with black pepper. Stir well.

Cover the slow cooker and cook on the high-heat setting for one hour, then reduce heat to low and cook for another four hours, or until beans are tender.

Turn off the pot and open the lid. Discard about 2 cups (500 ml) of cooking liquid. Using tongs, remove cooked ham bone, transfer it to a cutting board, and shred it. Return shredded meat to the cooker. Stir in the brown sugar, then season with salt and black pepper.

Ladle ham bean casserole into soup bowls. Sprinkle with chopped fresh parsley. Serve hot. Are you looking for more delicious slow cooker recipes? Here we have a huge collection, enjoy it!
