What are the benefits of air-frying shrimp?

Air frying is a cooking technique that uses air to circulate heated air around the food. It is a healthy way of cooking because it does not use oil.

This method of cooking does not require any oil for the food to cook in, making it healthier than other methods like deep frying. Air frying also contains fewer calories because it can cook without adding oil, which has been shown to keep people eating more due to the texture and taste of the food.

Would this dish be good for a dinner party?

When you are hosting a dinner party, the most important thing is making sure, that all your guests are happy. This means having dishes that people will enjoy and want to eat.

It is also good to have some dishes that allow people to mix and match. This way they can try one dish but still be able to order something else if they choose not to like it.

For example, you could make a selection of starters like flavourful dips or salads with contrasting textures (crunchy and creamy). Then, for the main course, offer different types of meat (steak, chicken), fish (salmon, tuna), or vegetarian options (pasta or risotto).

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1½ teaspoons freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 2/3 cup unsweetened flaked cocnut
  • 1/3 cup Panko breadcrumbs
  • 12 oz (360 g) raw shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt

Method

Step 1

In a small mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour and black pepper. Mix well and set aside.

Step 2

In another small mixing bowl, combine coconut and breadcrumbs. Stir well.

Step 3

Holding each shrimp by the tail, dredge in flour mixture, then shake off excess. Dip floured shrimp in beaten egg and allow any excess drip off. Dredge in coconut mixture, pressing to adhere. Transfer shrimp to a large plate.

Step 4

Preheat your air fryer to 400° F (200° C). Place half of the shrimp in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Cook for 3 minutes, then flip and continue cooking for a further 3 minutes or until golden brown. Season with 1/4 teaspoon salt. Repeat with remaining shrimp.

Step 5

Remove fried coconut shrimp from the fryer. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
