California sushi rolls. Very popular Japanese sushi.Delicious appetizer!
Ingredients
- 1 quantity cooked sushi rice
- 6 sheets of toasted nori
- 1/4 ripe avocado, peeled, pitted and cut into strips
- 6 crab sticks,split in half lengthwise
- 2-inches(5 cm) piece of English cucumber, peeled and cut into thin sticks
- 3 tablespoons white sesame seeds,toasted
- Japanese soy sauce
- pickled ginger
- wasabi paste
Method
Step 1
Divide sushi rice into 6 equal portions. Place a sheet of nori smooth-side down on the mat so that one of the long edges is directly in front of you. With your hands, spread 1 portion of the rice evenly over the nori, leaving no gaps.
Step 2
Lay a sheet of plastic wrap over the rice, then turn the whole thing over so what is under the rice and the seaweed side is facing upwards. Arrange some avocado across the nori at the end nearest you. Lay 2 pieces of crab stick next to the avocado and then add a line of thin English cucumber sticks. Pick up the nearest edge of the rolling mat. Roll the mat away from you to wrap the rice-covered nori around the filling
Step 3
Use the pressure and lift the mat out of the way as you go. Spread the toasted sesame seeds over a large plate. Roll the sushi in them to coat the rice evenly.
Step 4
Transfer the sushi roll to a chopping board,seam-side down. Cut the roll into 4 equal pieces with a wet, very sharp knife. Repeat with the remaining ingredients. Serve California sushi rolls with Japanese soy sauce, pickled ginger and wasabi.
