Easy Homemade French Fries Recipe

Makes 3-5 servings

Ingredients: 3 large potatoes, vegetable oil for deep frying, 1 cup (250 ml) water, 1/2 tablespoon (7 ml) salt, 1/4 teaspoon (1 ml) each: chili powder and freshly ground black pepper

Instructions: Using a potato peeler, peel potatoes, and slice into thin slices. Pour the water into a large saucepan. Add sliced potatoes and boil over medium-high heat until they are tender, for about 4-5 minutes. Remove the pan from the heat. Drain boiled potatoes, then wrap them in a piece of cloth to soak up the additional water.

In a frying pan, heat vegetable oil over high heat. Add sliced potatoes and fry until they are perfectly crispy.

Remove french fries from the frying pan and transfer to a serving bowl. Sprinkle with chili powder and ground black pepper. Serve with a ketchup.

Ingredients: 1-2 large potatoes, vegetable oil for deep frying, salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste, a bowl of cold water

Instructions: Peel potatoes and cut into strips. Wash the strips under cold running water, then soak them in a bowl with cold water for 20-25 minutes. Remove soaked potatoes from the water and pat them dry with paper towels.

In a deep fryer, heat vegetable oil to 270º F (135º C). Add potato strips to the hot oil and fry for about 5 minutes.

Remove potato fries from deep fryer and pat with tissue to remove any excess oil. Reheat the oil to 350º F (175º C). Working in batches, fry potatoes in the hot oil until golden brown. Repeat with the remaining potatoes.

Take french fries out and blot with a tissue, removing any traces of oil.

  • 1/2 tablespoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Method

Step 1

Pour the water in a large saucepan. Add sliced potatoes and boil in salted water for 4-5 minutes.

Step 2

Remove saucepan from the heat. Drain boiled poattoes and pat dry with paper towels.

Step 3

Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer. Add sliced potatoes and fry until crispy.

Step 4

Remove fried potatoes from the deep fryer and transfer to a bowl. Sprinkle withe chili powder and black pepper. Serve with a ketchup.
