Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon dry mustard
- 1 teaspoon freshly ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- 4 pounds (2 kg) chicken wings, trimmed
- 1½ cups (370 ml) barbecue sauce, divided
- cooking spray
Method
Step 1
In a mixing bowl, combine sugar, paprika, mustard, cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne, salt, and black pepper. Mix well.
Step 2
Place the dry mixture in a large plastic zip-lock bag. Place chicken wings in a zip-lock bag and shake well to coat with the dry mixture. Pour ½ cup (125 ml) of the barbecue sauce over the chicken and stir well to coat.
Step 3
Transfer spiced chicken wings in the slow cooker. Cover slow cooker and cook on low-heat setting for 3-4 hours or until chicken wings are tender.
Step 4
Remove cooked chicken wings from the slow cooker. Position the oven rack 10 inches(25 cm) from the broiler element and heat on high. Place a wire cooling rack on an aluminum foil-lined rimmed baking sheet and lightly grease the wire rack with cooking spray.
Step 5
Transfer cooked chicken wings to the prepared baking sheet. Brush chicken wings with ½ cup (125 ml) more barbecue sauce. Broil until lightly charred and crisp, about 10 to 15 minutes.
Step 6
Flip chicken over, brush with remaining ½ cup(125 ml) barbecue sauce. Continue to broil until lightly charred and crisp on the second side, for a further 5-10 minutes. Remove barbecued chicken wings from the broiler and serve immediately.
