Slow Cooker Barbecued Chicken Wings Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon dry mustard
  • 1 teaspoon freshly ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 4 pounds (2 kg) chicken wings, trimmed
  • 1Β½ cups (370 ml) barbecue sauce, divided
  • cooking spray

Method

Step 1

In a mixing bowl, combine sugar, paprika, mustard, cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne, salt, and black pepper. Mix well.

Step 2

Place the dry mixture in a large plastic zip-lock bag. Place chicken wings in a zip-lock bag and shake well to coat with the dry mixture. Pour Β½ cup (125 ml) of the barbecue sauce over the chicken and stir well to coat.

Step 3

Transfer spiced chicken wings in the slow cooker. Cover slow cooker and cook on low-heat setting for 3-4 hours or until chicken wings are tender.

Step 4

Remove cooked chicken wings from the slow cooker. Position the oven rack 10 inches(25 cm) from the broiler element and heat on high. Place a wire cooling rack on an aluminum foil-lined rimmed baking sheet and lightly grease the wire rack with cooking spray.

Step 5

Transfer cooked chicken wings to the prepared baking sheet. Brush chicken wings with Β½ cup (125 ml) more barbecue sauce. Broil until lightly charred and crisp, about 10 to 15 minutes.

Step 6

Flip chicken over, brush with remaining Β½ cup(125 ml) barbecue sauce. Continue to broil until lightly charred and crisp on the second side, for a further 5-10 minutes. Remove barbecued chicken wings from the broiler and serve immediately.
