Slow Cooker Marsala-Poached Pears Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 cup (250 ml) orange juice
  • 1 cup (250 ml) sweet Marsala wine
  • 2/3 cup brown sugar
  • 3-inch (7.5 cm) stick cinnamon
  • 1 star anise
  • 4 ripe red pears

Method

Step 1

In a 4-quart (4 L) slow cooker, combine orange juice, Marsala wine, brown sugar, cinnamon, and star anise. Stir well.

Peel each red pear from the bottom, leaving the stem intact. Stand pears up in the pot. Spoon orange mixture over peeled pears.

Step 3

Cover the cooker and cook on a high-heat setting for 1½-2 hours.

Step 4

Turn off the slow cooker and open the lid. Using a slotted spoon remove cooked pears from the pot and transfer them to dessert plates, reserving cooking liquid in the cooker.
