Slow Cooker Spicy Sausage Stew Recipe


  • 1 pound (480 g) Italian-style turkey sausages, sliced
  • 14½ oz (435 ml) can Italian plum tomatoes,undrained
  • 1 cup (250 ml) low-sodium chicken broth
  • 2 small yellow onions, peeled and cut into wedges
  • 1 tablespoon chopped garlic
  • half of small jalapeno chili, sliced
  • 1 yellow bell pepper, cored and sliced
  • 1½ teaspoons Italian seasoning
  • 1/8 teaspoon crushed red pepper
  • 1 red bell pepper, cored and thinly sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, cored and thinly sliced
  • salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 oz (30 g) shredded Parmesan cheese


Step 1

In a slow cooker, combine all ingredients, except bell peppers, salt, and black pepper Mix well.

Step 2

Cover the cooker and cook on high-heat setting for 4-5 hours, adding sliced bell peppers during the last 20 minutes.

Step 3

Turn off slow cooker. Season sausage stew with salt and black pepper. Stir well.

Step 4

Transfer to serving platter. Sprinkle with shredded Parmesan cheese (optional). Serve hot.
