Stir-fried firm tofu recipe. Tofu is an excellent food for those, who are concerned about excess fats or calories in their daily food. It is made from extracted soybean milk and looks like cream cheese. Tofu contains a lot of protein, which is required for our health. You can serve tofu with cooked rice or whole-wheat pasta.
Nuts and seeds are another great source of protein and contain a fair amount of oil and calories.
Chinese Tofu Recipe
Makes 4 servings
To make this tofu recipe you need to use the following ingredients:
1 pound (480 g) tofu, cubed, 1 tablespoon vegetable oil, 1/2 cup (125 ml) soy sauce, 2 celery stalks, diagonally sliced, 1 green bell pepper, seeded and diced, 2-3 yellow onions, peeled and finely sliced, boiling water, freshly ground ginger, 2 tablespoons cornstarch, salt, and freshly ground black pepper
Instructions: Pat tofu dry with paper towels. In a large nonstick skillet, heat oil over medium-high heat. Add cubed tofu and fry until golden. Pour in 1/4 cup (60 ml) soy sauce, then remove fried tofu from the skillet and set aside.
Add remaining vegetables to the same skillet and sautΓ© until cooked but crunchy. Pour in enough boiling water to cover the vegetables, and add the remaining 1/4 cup (60 ml) of soy sauce and ground ginger. Mix well and set aside.
In a small mixing bowl, combine cornstarch and water. Mix until cornstarch is dissolved. Stir the cornstarch mixture in the vegetable mixture. Season with salt and black pepper. Add fried tofu and stir gently. Heat and serve. This is an excellent vegetarian recipe!

- 1/2 cup cornmeal
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup wheat germ
- 1 teaspoon curry
- 1 teaspoon dry mustard
- pinch of thyme
- 1 garlic clove, peeled and thinly sliced
- 1 pound (480 g) tofu,c ut into strips
- 1/2 cup (125 ml) milk
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
Method
Step 1
In a mixing bowl, combine all dry ingredients. Mix well.
Step 2
Dip tofu strips in milk and coat with dry ingredients.
Step 3
In a medium nonstick skillet, heat vegetable oil. Add seasoned tofu and fry until golden.
