Classic caipirinha cocktail recipe. A cocktail originally made with cachaça, sugar, and lime cider. The taste is very different from that of other cocktails.
What is a Caipirinha cocktail?
A caipirinha cocktail is a Brazilian drink made from cachaça (a sugar cane spirit) and lime. The drink gets its name from the Portuguese word “caipira,” which means “country dweller” or “rural person.”
The caipirinha is often served in a short, wide glass such as a highball glass or a collins glass. It can also be served blended with ice in an Old Fashioned glass.
A common variation is to add sweeteners to taste, such as sugar or syrup, and sometimes fruit.
The drink is typically stirred together in the same way one would stir any cocktail, though some recipes may call for adding lots of ice and then stirring quickly to avoid melting the ice too much.
What is the difference between a caipirinha and a mojito?
A caipirinha is a cocktail made from cachaça, sugar, and lime. The drink has been described as Brazil’s national cocktail.
A mojito is a Cuban highball traditionally made from white rum, sugar or honey, lime or lemon juice, and sparkling water.
What is the typical sweetness level?
If you’re looking for a sugar substitute that has the same sweetness level as sugar, then xylitol could be a good option. Xylitol is not as sweet as sucrose, but it is about 2/3 the sweetness of sugar.
