- 6 boneless and skinless chicken breasts
- salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 4 garlic cloves, peeled and minced
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 1/2 stick unsalted butter, cubed
- zest of half of lemon
- freshly squeezed juice of 1 lemon
- 1/3 cup (80 ml) low-sodium chicken broth
- fresh sage leaves and lemon slices, for garnish
In a large nonstick skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chicken breasts and cook until lightly browned.
Remove browned chicken from the skillet and transfer to a slow cooker. In a medium mixing bowl, combine chicken broth, lemon juice, and zest. Mix well and pour over chicken.
In a small mixing bowl, combine all dry ingredients. Stir well. Sprinkle the spice mixture over the chicken. Top with minced garlic and cubed butter.
Cover the pot and cook on low-heat setting for 6-8 hours or until chicken is tender.
Turn off the crock pot and open the lid. Remove cooked chicken from the cooker and transfer to serving plates. Pour cooking liquid over. Garnish with fresh sage leaves and sliced lemon. Serve hot.
