Pressure cooker fish Italian-style.This quick and yummy Instant Pot fish recipe will become a favorite meal in no time. It’s healthy, cheap, and uses frozen fish, so give it a try even if you don’t usually cook fish at home.
To make this dish, cook frozen fish in an Instant Pot with Italian broth and Mediterranean ingredients like olives, garlic, capers, and tomatoes. The flavors are tangy and savory with a hint of sweetness from cherry tomatoes, and they soak into the fish as it cooks. You’ll love this easy and delicious recipe even if you’re new to using an Instant Pot. Just dump the ingredients in and let it cook!
What You Will Need to Cook Fish Italian-Style
To make this delicious Instant Pot fish dish, you’ll need some simple ingredients. The best part is that you can find these ingredients easily and you might already have them at home:
Frozen fish: To make this recipe, we used two frozen sea bass white fish fillets. They were whole and didn’t fit in our 6q Instant Pot. We ran them under hot water for 10 seconds and cut each fillet in half. You can use any frozen fish in this recipe since the Italian flavors work well with most types of fish.
Tomatoes: We like using tiny tomatoes because they taste really good (and they’re cute), but you can also cut big tomatoes into quarters. You can use ½ cup of canned tomatoes instead of fresh ones.
Pickled food: We used dried green olives, but you can also use regular Kalamata or black olives. We also added marinated baby capers from Italy. You can find these ingredients near other pickled items or buy them online. They taste good in pasta, sandwiches, and salads, so you can save any leftovers.
The basics: Olive oil, garlic, and chili flakes are the important ingredients in this Mediterranean and Italian dish. They add a lot of flavor!
How to Cook Frozen Fish in an Electric Pressure Cooker
Cooking frozen sea bass in an Instant Pot is super easy. Since frozen fish takes longer to cook than fresh fish, the broth has more time to develop its flavors. If you cooked fresh sea bass in an Instant Pot, it would take a lot less time and the broth might not taste the same.
First, put the frozen fish in a pot. Then, put the other ingredients on top and in between the fish. Next, add some water, olive oil, sea salt, and chili flakes. That’s all you need to do!
To make a delicious recipe, put the lid on the pot and set it to cook on high pressure for 4 minutes. After that, let it sit for 5-7 minutes to release the pressure naturally. When you take off the lid, the broth will smell amazing and the tomatoes will be slightly squished. The fish will be tender and easily break apart. Enjoy!
To put the cooked fillets on a plate, use a spatula to carefully move them. Then, take the remaining broth and ingredients and pour them on top. You can also add some parsley or basil on top.
Serving Suggestions
This tasty Instant Pot Italian fish can be served in a few different ways depending on what you like to eat. Don’t let the extra broth go to waste – try to pick something that can soak it all up.
For an authentic Italian meal, you can serve the fish and broth on top of cooked pasta, boiled potatoes, rice, or with some crusty bread on the side. Quinoa or lentils would also be good options.
If you’re looking for a healthier option, you can serve the fish and broth over cauliflower rice, cooked sweet potatoes or white potatoes, or with zucchini noodles. These are great choices if you’re following a low-carb, Whole30, or paleo diet.
Pressure Cooker Fish Italian-Style
This tasty Instant Pot fish is made with frozen sea bass and a yummy broth of cherry tomatoes, olives, capers, and roasted peppers. You can eat it with pasta, potatoes, bread, or veggies for a healthy meal.
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup (60 ml) water
- 2 frozen sea bass fillets, cut into halves
- 12 cherry tomatoes
- 6 green olives, halved
- 2 tablespoons marinated capers
- 4 cloves garlic, peeled and chopped
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- a pinch of chili flakes
- chopped fresh parsey or basil, for garnish
Method
Step 1
Pour ¼ cup of water into the Pressure Cooker/Instant Pot. This is because the frozen fish will thaw and make a lot of liquid during cooking.
Step 2
Put the frozen fish in the water. Then put in the remaining ingredients (spread it out on top). Add a little bit of olive oil and sprinkle on some sea salt and chilli flakes.
Step 3
Close the pot and lock the lid. To cook, select Manual and set the pressure to HIGH for 4 minutes. When you hear 3 beeps, the Instant Pot will start to build up pressure and cook. When the timer goes off, wait 7-8 minutes for the pressure to release naturally, then do a quick release to let out the steam.
Step 4
To get the fish out, open the lid and use a spatula. Put the broth and cooked stuff on top and serve. Add some chopped parsley or basil for decoration.
