Slow cooker breakfast strata recipe.  Spanish strata with chorizo sausages and vegetables cooked in a slow cooker. Chorizo is a spicy sausage flavored with chili pepper and garlic. You may also like Tortilla Strata, another tasty breakfast cooked in a slow cooker.

Slow Cooker Breakfast Strata Recipe

Ingredients

  • 4 cups (1 L) 1-inch (2.5 cm) pieces country-style bread
  • 1½ cups (375 ml) frozen diced hash brown potatoes with onions and peppers
  • 1 cup (250 ml) shredded cheese
  • 1/2 cup (125 ml) coarsely chopped sweet onion
  • 2 oz (60 ml) cooked chorizo, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, peeled and minced
  • 2 cups (500 ml) milk
  • 4 large eggs, beaten
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper

Method

Step 1

Line 4-quart (4 L) slow cooker with slow cooker liner.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, combine bread pices, hash borwn potatoes, cheese onion, chopped chorizo sausages, and garlic.. Mix well, then spoon the bread mixture into thep repared pot.

Step 3

In the same mixing bowl, combine milk, beaten eggs, salt , and red pepper. Stir well, then pour the egg mixture over bread mixture in a crock pot. Press the bread lightly with the back of a large spoon to moisten completely.

Step 4

Cover the slow cooker and cook on low-heat setting for 5-6 hours.

Step 5

Turn off the cooker and open the lid. Remove baked strata form the cooker and transfer to a servong plate. Cool strata for 15-30 minutes.
