Slow Cooker Hot Buttered Apple Rum Recipe
Ingredients
- 4-inch (10 cm) cinnamon stick, broken
- 1 teaspoon whole spice
- 1 teaspoon whole cloves
- 7 cups (1.75 L) apple juice
- 2 cups (500 ml) rum
- 1/3 - 1/2 cup brown sugar
- unsalted butter
Method
Step 1
To make a spice bag, cut a 6-inch (15 cm) square from a double thickness of cheesecloth. Place broken cinnamon sticks, allspice, and cloves in the center of the square. Fold up corners of cheesecloth, then tie with a kitchen string.
Step 2
In a 6-quart (6 L) slow cooker, combine prepared spice bag, apple juice, rum, and brown sugar. Cover the pot and cook on a low-heat setting for 7-8 hours.
Step 3
Turn off the slow cooker and open the lid. Remove and discard the spice bag.
Step 4
Ladle hot apple rum into tall glasses. Float about 1/2 teaspoon unsalted butter on each serving. Garnish with a cinnamon stick, if desired. Serve hot.
