Slow Cooker Soy-Braised Chicken Wings
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup (60 ml) dry sherry
- 1/4 cup (60 ml) soy sauce
- 3 tablespoons sugar
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons minced garlic, divided
- 12 chicken wings, tips removed
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil, divided
- 3 green onions, cut into 1-inch (2.5 cm) pieces
- 1/4 cup (60 ml) chicken broth
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon sesame seeds, toasted
Method
Step 1
In a large mixing bowl, combine sherry, soy sauce, sugar, cornstarch,1 tablespoon garlic, and red pepper flakes. Mix well.
Step 2
Stir chicken wings in the remaining marinade. Cover and refrigerate overnight, turning once or twice. Drain the wings and discard the marinade.
Step 3
In a large nonstick skillet, heat a tablespoon of vegetable oil over high heat for 1 minute. Add half of the wings and cook for 3-4 minutes or until wings are brown on all sides, turning occasionally.
Step 4
Remove, using, a slotted spoon, to the slow cooker. Repeat with remaining vegetable oil and chicken wings.
Step 5
Add the remaining, tablespoon of garlic and green onions to the skillet and cook and stir for 30 seconds. Stir in chicken broth and pour over chicken wings.
Step 6
Cover the slow cooker and cook on a high-heat setting for 2 hours or until the wings are cooked through. Using a slotted spoon, transfer slow cooker soy-braised chicken wings to a serving platter.
Step 7
In a small mixing bowl, combine sesame oil and reserved marinade. Mix well and pour mixture over chicken wings. Sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds. Serve immediately.
