Air fryer chicken Katsu recipe. Chicken katsu is a quick and healthy alternative to the deep-fried alternatives.

What is the difference between a regular oven and an air fryer?

An oven is a kitchen appliance that cooks food by applying dry heat. Air fryers, on the other hand, use convection and infrared heating to cook food.

Whereas an oven heats up the entire chamber, an air fryer heats up only the food. This means that your air fryer will not heat up your kitchen as much as a regular oven would.

Air fryers are great for cooking crispy foods because they use hot air instead of oil to cook them. This makes them healthier than a regular oven because it doesn’t require any added fat or oil in order to cook food.

What is chicken Katsu?

Japanese katsu is deep-fried meat, fish, or vegetables coated with bread crumbs. Air fryer chicken katsu is a dish that is made from chicken cutlets that are breaded and then fried in an air fryer.

The dish is typically served with shredded cabbage and rice.

What are the benefits of chicken Katsu?

Air fryer chicken katsu is a fried, breaded chicken dish that is cooked in an air fryer. It is a healthier alternative to deep-frying due to the lack of oil.

The benefits of air fryer chicken katsu are that it’s healthier than deep-fried food, it’s easier to cook, and it has less calories.

Do you need a deep-frying thermometer to use an air fryer?

A deep-frying thermometer is not necessary for an air fryer. The fryer will automatically adjust the temperature and cooking time. It is important to note that the oil needs to be at a higher temperature for deep frying than it does for air frying.

Ingredients

  • To Make a Katsu Sauce;
  • 1/2 cup (125 ml) ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon dry sherry
  • 2 teaspoons Worcetershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • For the Chicken:
  • 1 pound (480 g) boneless and skinless chicken breasts, halved horizontally
  • salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1½ Panko breadcrumbs

Method

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the soy sauce, brown sugar, sherry, Worcestershire sauce, and garlic. Whisk well.

Step 2

Preheat your air fryer to 350 F (175 C) for 5 minutes.

Step 3

Place chicken breasts on a large clean surface. Season with salt and black pepper.

Step 4

Place beaten eggs in a medium bowl. Put breadcrumbs in a separate bowl.

Step 5

Dip seasoned chicken in egg and then in breadcrumbs. Repeat by dipping chicken in egg and then in breadcrumbs again.

Step 6

Transfer chicken breasts to the air fryer basket. Top with nonstick cooking spray.

Step 7

Fry in the preheated fryer for 10 minutes. Using a wooden spatula, flip the chicken, then spray with more nonstick cooking spray and cook for a further 8 minutes.

Step 8

Remove fried chicken from the fryer and transfer them to the cutting board. Slice and serve with katsu sauce.
