Whether you’re an experienced baker or just starting out, this step-by-step guide will help you whip up a batch of these tasty treats in no time. So, let’s get started!
How to Prepare the Dough for Potato and Cheese Scones
To prepare the dough for potato and cheese scones, you will need a few basic ingredients. Start by preheating your halogen oven to 200°C (392°F). In a large mixing bowl, combine 250g of self-raising flour, a pinch of salt, and 50g of cold butter. Rub the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles breadcrumbs.
Next, add 100g of grated cheddar cheese and one medium-sized potato that has been peeled and grated. Mix everything together well. In a separate bowl, whisk together one egg and 150ml of milk. Gradually pour this mixture into the dry ingredients, stirring with a wooden spoon until a soft dough forms.
Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead it gently for a minute or two until it becomes smooth. Be careful not to overwork the dough as this can make the scones tough. Flatten the dough out to a thickness of around 2cm (3/4 inch).
Using a round cookie cutter or the rim of a glass, cut out circles of dough and place them on a baking tray lined with parchment paper. Brush the tops of the scones with a little extra milk or beaten egg to help them brown nicely in the oven.
Finally, bake the scones in your halogen oven for around 12-15 minutes or until they are golden brown and cooked through. Remove them from the oven and transfer them to a wire rack to cool slightly before serving.
Cooking Potato and Cheese Scones in a Halogen (Turbo) Oven
Now that you have prepared the dough for your potato and cheese scones, it’s time to cook them in your halogen oven. The great thing about using a halogen oven is that it cooks food faster than a conventional oven, thanks to its powerful fan and heating element.
To begin, preheat your halogen oven to 375°F (190°C). While the oven is heating up, take out your scone dough from the fridge and place it on a floured surface. Use a rolling pin to roll out the dough until it’s about 1 inch thick.
Next, use a cookie cutter or a glass to cut out the scones into desired shapes. Place the scones onto a baking tray lined with parchment paper, leaving some space between each scone to allow for expansion during cooking.
Once the oven has reached the desired temperature, place the baking tray with the scones inside the halogen oven. Cook the scones for approximately 12-15 minutes or until they are golden brown on top and cooked through.
After the scones are done, remove them from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes before serving. You can serve these delicious potato and cheese scones warm or at room temperature, with butter or your favorite spread.
In conclusion, cooking potato and cheese scones in a halogen oven is quick and easy. With this method, you can enjoy freshly baked scones in no time.
