  • 1/4 cup chopped scallions
  • 2 pounds (960 g) beef sirloin, cubed
  • 3 cloves garlic, peeled and minced
  • 2 teaspoons minced ginger
  • 1 medium yellow onion, peeled and chopped
  • 3-4 pieces star anise
  • 4 tablespoons bown sugar
  • 1/8 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) soy sauce
  • 1½ cups (375 ml) beef broth

Method

Step 1

In a slow cooker, combine all ingredients, except garlic fried rice and chopped scallions. Mix well.

Step 2

Cover the pot and cook on a low-heat setting for 8 hours.

Step 3

Turn off the cooker and open the lid. Add salt to taste. Remove cooked beef with some sauce from the slow cooker and transfer it to a serving bowl. Sprinkle with chopped scallions.
