Slow Cooker Petits Pots de Creme au Mocha


  • 1 teaspoon instant coffee powder
  • 1 tablespoon light brown sugar
  • 1 ¼ cups (300 ml) milk
  • 2/3 cup (160 ml) heavy cream
  • 4 oz (120 g) plain semisweet chocolate
  • 1 tablespoon coffee liqueur
  • 4 egg yolks
  • whipped cream, to decorate (optional)


Step 1

In a saucepan, combine instant coffee and sugar. Mix well. Stir in milk and heavy cream. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly, until coffee and sugar have dissolved.

Step 2

Remove pan from the heat. Add semisweet chocolate. Stir well until chocolate has melted. Stir in coffee liqueur.

Step 3

In a mixing bowl, whisk egg yolks. Add chocolate mixture and whisk well until chocolate well blended. Strain the custard mixture into a large pitcher and divide equally among pots de crème.

Step 4

Cover each pot with aluminum foil. Transfer to slow cooker. Put enough water around the dishes to come just over halfway up their sides.

Step 5

Cover slow cooker and cook on high-heat setting for 2-3 hours or until they are just set and knife inserted into middle comes out clean.

Step 6

Remove the pots from slow cooker. Set aside and allow cooling. Cover, chill until ready to serve. Decorate with whipped cream, very finely grated chocolate.
