How to Use an Air Fryer to Cook General Tso Chicken (Alternative Version)
This is a general Tso chicken recipe that uses an air fryer. It is a quick and easy way to cook this dish without the need for deep frying.
An air fryer is a great tool for cooking because it can be used with various types of food. The only thing you need to do is make sure you have the right amount of oil before starting to cook.
Air-Fried General Tso Chicken Recipe Ingredients:
β 4 boneless chicken breasts or thighs, sliced thinly
β 2 tbsp cornstarch
β 2 tbsp canola oil
β 1/4 cup chicken broth
β 1/4 tsp salt
β 1/4 tsp black pepper
β 4 cloves garlic, minced (1 tablespoon) or 3 tablespoons of ginger and garlic paste
β 3/4 cup soy sauce
β 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes-
3 tbsp hoisin sauce, divided
β 2 cups frozen mixed vegetables (corn, peas, and carrots)- 2 green onions, chopped
To start off the process you need to pour 1 tablespoon of canola oil into your air fryer. Next, you will need to place the chicken in a bowl and add 2 tablespoons of cornstarch, 1/4 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 teaspoon black pepper to the chicken.
After you have mixed the seasonings into your chicken it is time to place a wire rack into the bottom of your air fryer. Next line up your sliced chicken in rows on top of the wire rack.
You need to set the timer for about 8 minutes at 350 degrees. After eight minutes you will need to flip your chicken and set the timer for another 8 minutes.
Repeat this process two more times for a total of 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, remove your chicken from the air fryer and place it on a plate. To make the two sauces combine 1/8 cup of soy sauce with 3 tablespoons of water.
Place the chicken back in the air fryer and cook for another 2 minutes before serving.

- 1 pound (480 g) boneless and skinless chicken breasts, cut into cubes
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1/2 teaspooon salt
- freshly ground black pepper
- For the Sauce:
- 1/4 cup (60 ml) ketchup
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons dark brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon ginger paste
- 2 garlic cloves, peeled and crushed
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
- toasted sesame seeds, for garnish
- sliced green onions, for garnish

Step 1
Preheat your air fryer to 400 F (200 C) for 5 minutes.
Step 2
In a small mixing bowl, combine cubed chicken, cornstarch, salt, and black pepper. Toss well to coat the chicken evenly.
Step 3
Spray the air fryer basket with nonstick cooking spray. Place seasoned chicken in the greased air fryer basket, leaving some space between cubes. Fry for 10 minutes, tossing once during the cooking.
Step 4
In a small saucepan, combine all sauce ingredients. Whisk until brown sugar is dissolved completely. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat.
Step 5
Reduce the heat to low and simmer for a further 5 minutes or until sauce is thickened. Pour the sauce over fried chicken to coat evenly. Sprinkle with sesame seeds and sliced green onions. Serve hot.
