Variation:
Slow Cooker Pasta Bolognese with Fresh Tomato-Herb Sauce
makes 6 servings
Ingredients: 5 cups (1.25 l0 chopped ripe tomatoes, 1/2 cup (125 ml) finely chopped yellow onion, 1/2 cup (125 ml) dry red wine, 2 tablespoons (30 ml) tomato paste, 2 tablespoons (30 ml) minced garlic, 1 tablespoon (15 ml) granulated sugar, 2 bay leaves, 2 teaspoons (10 ml) dried basil leaves, 1 teaspoon (5 ml)dried thyme leaves, pinch of crushed red pepper, salt, to taste, 3/4 pound (360 g) cooked pasta, warm
Instructions: In a 6-quart (6 L) slow cooker, combine all ingredients, except pasta and salt. Cover the pot and cook on a low-heat setting for 6-7 hours. Turn off the slow cooker and open the lid.
Discard bay leaves. Stir tomato-herb sauce well before serving. Serve over the cooked pasta.

Slow Cooker Meatballs with Pasta
Ingredients
- 1 pound (480 g) lean ground beef
- 1/4 cupchopped yellow onion
- 1/4 cup chopped carrots
- 1/4 cup chopped celery
- 3 cloves garlic, peeled and minced
- 1½ teaspoons dried Italian seasoning
- 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 8 oz (240 ml) can tomato sauce
- 8 oz 9240 ml) can diced tomatoes, undrained
- 1/4 cup (60 ml) dry red wine
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- 3/4 pound (360 g) cooked spaghetti, warm
Method
Step 1
Heat a lightly greased medium saucepan over medium heat. Add ground beef and cook, crumbling with the fork, until browned, for about 5-8 minutes. Remove browned meat from the pan and transfer to a 6-quart (6 L) slow cooker.
Step 2
Add remaining ingredients, except spaghetti to the pot and stir well.
Step 3
Cover the cooker and cook on a low-heat setting for 6-7 hours.
Step 4
Turn off the slow cooker and open the lid. Stir the sauce well. Serve over the cooked spaghetti.
