Instant pot kalua pork recipe. This is an easy-to-make Hawaiian-style pulled pork recipe, but you’ll need an instant pot for it. Instant pot kalua pork tastes great and is perfect for serving over rice with a side of veggies.

What is kalua pork?

The kalua pork is a traditional Hawaiian recipe that is made with a combination of pork, onions, garlic, and salt. It can be cooked in the pot for about an hour and it also has a variety of health benefits.

This recipe is one of the most famous Hawaiian dishes because it requires only five ingredients and takes only about an hour to cook.

This dish is usually cooked in coconut milk but you can substitute this ingredient with any type of liquid that you have on hand.

What are some other dishes that can be made in the Instant Pot?

Chefs across the world have been using the Instant Pot to make a variety of dishes in recent years. They can use this cooking tool for more than just pressure cookers. Here are some other dishes that can be made with this device:

Beef and Brown Rice: The pressure cooker is used here to cook beef, onions, carrots, and brown rice all together until it’s tender. There is also a gravy made from beef broth, soy sauce, brown sugar, and pepper.

Chicken Pot Pie: The chicken breasts are cooked in the Instant Pot and then put into a pie crust so that they can be fried before being placed back into the pot with vegetables like potatoes, carrots and onions. It has all of the flavors of an oven-baked chicken pot pie without any hassle!

What type of meat does Kalua use?

Kalua pork is typically made from a whole hog, but other varieties of meat may be substituted for the pork. The most common substitute is chicken, which can be used in place of a whole hog, or cuts from a chicken carcass can be used.

Ingredients

  • 3 pound (1.44 kg) pork shoulder roast, cubed into 4-inch cubes
  • 2½ teaspoons Hawaiian salt
  • 1 tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon Liquid Smoke
  • 2 teaspoons soy sauce
  • 1½ teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1 head cabbage, sliced into wedges
  • 1 up (250 ml) water

Method

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine 1 tablespoon of Liquid Smoke and 2 teaspoons soy sauce. Mix well. Add cubed pork and coat well with the soy mixture. Rub with Hawaiian salt and garlic powder. Cover and let it marinate for at least 30 minutes or overnight.

Step 2

Pour 1 cup (250 ml) water into an electric instant pot. Place marinated pork along with the marinade in the cooker. Close the pot and lock the lid. Set the machine to cook at high pressure. Set the timer to cook for 50 minutes.

Step 3

Using the Quick Release method, bring pressure to normal. Carefully unlock and open the lid. Using a slotted spoon, remove cooked pork from the cooker and transfer it to a large bowl. Wrap with a foil and keep warm.

Step 4

Remove 1/2 cup (125 ml) of cooking liquid from the pot and set aside. Place sliced cabbage wedges into the instant pot. Close the pot and lock the lid. Set the machine to cook at high pressure. Set the timer to cook for 3 minutes.

Step 5

Using the Quick Release method, bring pressure to normal. Carefully unlock and open the lid.

Step 6

In a mixing bowl, combine the remaining 1/2 teaspoon Liquid Smoke and reserved 1/2 cup of cooking liquid. Stir well. Add the pork roast, shredded with two forks. Serve with cooked cabbage and rice.
