Different Variations of Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich Recipes
Philly cheese steak sandwiches are a classic sandwich in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The sandwich is made up of thinly sliced ribeye steak with melted cheese on a long, crusty roll. The cheese is usually Cheez Whiz or provolone. The traditional Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich is served with fried onions and peppers on top and often has pickled green peppers or sweet peppers added to the sandwich. The sandwich is a variation of the “cheesesteak”. Plain cheesesteak sandwiches, baked with provolone cheese, are also common.
Make hoagie rolls for cheesy steak sandwiches at home. To prepare these rolls you need to use the following ingredients:1/4 oz (7.5 g) active dry yeast,3 cups (750 ml) water, divided, 2 tablespoons granulated sugar, divided,1/4 cup (60 ml) vegetable oil,1 tablespoon salt and 8 cups all-purpose flour.
In a mixing bowl, combine yeast and 1/2 cup (125 ml) warm water. Mix well until yeast dissolved completely. Stir in 1 tablespoon sugar. Set mixture aside for 5 minutes.
Add remaining water and sugar. Stir in vegetable oil, salt, and 4 cups of all-purpose flour. Beat until smooth. Stir in enough flour to form a soft dough. Transfer dough to a floured board. Knead it until smooth and elastic (for about 6-8 minutes).
Place dough in a greased bowl, turning once to grease the top. Cover dough and let rise for 45 minutes.
Transfer raised dough onto a floured board. Divide into 18 pieces. Shape into an oval. Put 2-inch (5 cm) apart from the greased baking dish. Using scissors, cut 1/4 inch slash across the top of each. Cover with a lid and let rise for 20 minutes.
Preheat the oven to 400º F (200º C). Bake in preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
Turn off the oven. Remove rolls from oven and allow cooling on wire rack.
