Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons cooking oil
  • 1/2 small onion,peeled and chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic,peeled
  • 1/2 pound (240 g) beef,cubed
  • 1/2 cup (125 ml) water
  • 6 baby carrots
  • 2 sticks dry tofu
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon dry red wine
  • 3 dashes white pepper

Method

Step 1

Soak tofu in warm water for 30 minutes. Cut soaked tofu into pieces and set aside.

Step 2

Heat cooking oil in a deep wok, then adds garlic and onion. Stir-fry until golden brown and aromatic. Add cubed beef, carrot, and tofu. Add water, season to taste, and stir well.

Step 3

Cover wok, reduce heat to low, and simmer until beef becomes tender. Serve Chinese beef stew hot with cooked rice.
