Slow Cooker Simple Seafood Chowder Recipe
This chowder is a clam juice-based recipe.
Makesslow 8 servings
Ingredients: 2 cups(500 ml) clam juice, 1 can (28 oz (840 ml) diced tomatoes, undrained, 1 cup (250 ml) tomato sauce, 4 cups peeled and chopped potatoes, 1 cup sliced yellow onions, 1 cup sliced celery, 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce, 1 teaspoon dried rosemary leaves, 1Β½ pounds (720 g0 halibut steaks, cut into cubes, 1 cup (250 ml) whole milk, 3 tablespoons cornstarch, salt, and freshly ground black pepper, to taste, 4 slices bacon, cooked crisp and crumbled
Instructions: In a 6-quart (6 L) slow cooker, combine clam juice, tomatoes with juice, tomato sauce, cubed potatoes, onions, celery, Worcestershire sauce, and rosemary. Cover and cook in a high-heat setting for 4-5 hours, stirring cubed halibut for the last 15 minutes.
Stir in combined milk and cornstarch, stirring for 2-3 minutes. Turn off the slow cooker. Season fish chowder with salt and black pepper. Ladle it into soup bowls. Sprinkle each bowl with crumbled bacon. Serve hot.
Variation
Slow Cooker Rich Shrimp Chowder Recipe
Make fish chowder as above, substituting 1Β½ pounds (720 g) of peeled and deveined shrimp for the halibut. Decrease potatoes to 2 cups and stir in 1 cup of frozen (thawed and drained) peas.
Slow Cooker Salmon Chowder with Potatoes
Fresh salmon is a very good choice for fine chowders.
Makes 4 servings
Ingredients: 3 cups (750 ml) fish stock, divided, 3ΒΌ cups peeled and cubed potatoes, 1 cup chopped yellow onion, 1/2 teaspoon dry mustard, 1/2 teaspoon dried marjoram leaves, 1 pound (480 g) salmon steaks, cut into cubes, 1 cup 9250 ml) whole milk, 2 tablespoons cornstarch, salt, and freshly ground white pepper
Instructions: In a slow cooker, combine fish stock, potatoes, chopped onion, dry mustard, and marjoram. Cover the cooker and cook on a high-heat setting for 5-6 hours. Turn off the slow cooker. Transfer the vegetable mixture to a food processor. Process until smooth. Return to slow cooker. Stir in cubed salmon. Cook on a high-heat setting for 10-15 minutes or until the fish is cooked through.
Stir in combined milk and cornstarch, stirring for 2-3 minutes. Turn off the slow cooker. Season fish chowder with salt and white pepper. Ladle it into soup bowls and serve immediately.

Ingredients
- 1 cup (250 ml) clam juice
- 2 medium poatoes, peeled and cut into cubes
- 1/2 cup chopped yellow onion
- 1/2 cup (125 ml) dry white wine
- 1/2 teaspoon celery seeds
- 1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning
- 8 oz (240 g) halibut fillet, cubed
- 4 oz (120 g) bay scallops
- 4 oz (120 g) uncooked shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 1/2 teaspoon hot pepper sauce
- 1 cup cooked lobster meat
- sea salt, to taste
Method
Step 1
In a slow cooker, combine clam juice, potatoes, onion, wine, celery seeds, and herbs. Cover the cooker and cook on high-heat setting for 3-4 hours, adding seafood during the last 20 minutes.
Step 2
Turn off slow cooker. Stir in hot pepper sauce. Season to taste with sea salt.
Step 3
Ladle chowder into soup bowls. Serve it hot.
